MSW Newsletter - Stories of Interest 10/4/12

In the event this is the first newsletter of mine you've seen, which is a strong possibility, let me first say thanks for your attention. With everyone's attention span in mind, I've been consolidating things I find interesting into one post once or twice a week.

We tend to get bombarded with tons of stories, upcoming events, pics, and videos, so rather than having you the reader sift through tons of posts on facebook and twitter, I put these newsletters together, hope you enjoy!

    PIC OF INTEREST:

    Friendly reminder...

STORIES OF INTEREST: (click the headline for the full story)

Philadelphia Police Officer Who Hit Woman Will Be Fired
Veteran Philadelphia Police Lt. Jonathan Josey is suspended with the intent to dismiss after he was filming hitting a woman and handcuffing her at Puerto Rican Day festivities. The woman, Aida Guzman, was cleared of charges and her lawyer says she hopes for an apology.

An appeals court has overturned a federal judge’s recent decision to block a controversial statute that gave the government the power to carry out indefinite detention.

With marijuana legalization initiatives heading to the ballot, some with a good chance of passage, and with growing international support for a real debate on prohibition, people are talking about drug policy like they never have before. And so two of our three new offers for donating members come from the academic world rather than activist reformer circles.

The Federal Reserve's latest easing program may be nicknamed "QE Infinity" on Wall Street, but it's having a very limited effect on the markets and economy so far. Stocks have been flat to slightly lower since the central bank announced the third round of its quantitative easing program — QE3 — while economists remain pessimistic that it will achieve its stated goal of bringing down the unemployment rate.

Ten years ago the debate over the Iraq War came to Congress in the form of a resolution promoted by the Bush administration. The war in Iraq will cost the United States as much as $5 trillion. It played a role in spurring the global financial crisis. Four thousand four hundred eighty-eight Americans were killed. More than 33,000 were injured. As many as 1 million innocent Iraqi civilians were killed. The monetary cost of the war to Iraq is incalculable. A sectarian civil war has ravaged Iraq for nearly a decade.

Ep 16 - MSW Podcast ft Dave Cahill of The Almighty Terribles 10/08/12 at 10pm EST

Thanks to Chris at Laffcast.com, I've been able to add, not only high quality production, but also consistency to the Mike Salvi's World Podcast. We're now officially operating out of Laffcast Studios every other Monday live at 10pm EST

Let me just get this out of the way now...I absolutely love being me. The amount of talented, hard working, and just overall awesome people I know seems endless, and I just feel lucky to stand among them all. Dave Cahill is high up on that list. Dave is the front man for the band THE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES, who performed at FEDSTOCK a few years ago. FEDSTOCK was our first event where we featured musicians on the lawn of Independence Mall after one of our END THE FED rallies.

THE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES will be our featured musicians on 10/12/12 at our next TFP LIVE!!! event, so it only made sense to invite Dave on the podcast for episode 16. Tune in right here on Monday 10/8/12 at 10pm EST.

Formed in 2007, THE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES are a unique and intensifying, 3 piece post-apocalyptic progressive rock band that pushes the boundaries through an array of compelling original songs dynamic sounds.  Based out of Frenchtown, NJ. and The Lehigh Valley, PA., Front man Dave Cahill‘s blazing guitar work combined with his rhythmic and socially conscience lyrics, produce a passionate dimension of sound.  Alongside the creative and concussive grooves of drummer, Ryan Decker, and the solid and melodic bass attack of Nathan PowellTHE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES, have launched an unforgettable and driving original sound.

    Dave Cahill

Their relentless schedule of recording and performing has resulted in the release of three albums (“FASCISTS TO ASHES“, “HOPE-NOSIS” & “WE’RE NOT THE ONLY ONES“), numerous tours and professional music videos, and contributions of original music to multiple film soundtracks. THE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES have also already begun work on their fourth original studio album, to be released in 2013.

Through their explosive live performances the band has been breaking ground in the local spotlight, gaining critical acclaim from audiences of all demographics, and has garnered the attention of producer Brian Herman from SMT Studios in Manhattan, resulting in their latest offering “WE’RE NOT THE ONLY ONES“, released in August of 2011.

WE’RE NOT THE ONLY ONES” is an electrifying concept album that combines a variety of musical genres such as rock, jazz, punk and experimentation into a mind expanding musical piece that asks a lot of big questions about the Universe and our place in it.  Recorded with the help of producer, Brian Herman, this 13 track album is by far the band’s best and most ambitious effort thus far.  The album is available for purchase in digital format on iTunes, and physical copies can be purchased at the lives shows and on www.thealmightyterribles.com.

For more information on THE ALMIGHTY TERRIBLES and a complete live performance listing, as well as information on how to purchase the album, please visit www.thealmightyterribles.com.
